Westfield restates commitment to cinema plans

Shopping centre developer Westfield says it is committed to retaining a cinema in its plans to redevelop the Whitgift Centre.
The comments, from development director John Burton, came after rival developer Hammerson, which is also bidding for the right to redevelop the centre, received planning permission for a cinema as part of its plans for the Centrale shopping centre.
He warned that “one complex will come at the expense of the other” but said that he was confident the Westfield plans would win out.
Westfield is expected to submit a formal planning application this summer.
